What’s on at the RMI Academies - May 2018


Looking to kickstart your automotive training? The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills offers a range of training courses for existing and potential MOT Testers at two venues, designed to cater to technicians nationwide.

We offer a wide selection of courses, whether you are just beginning your automotive career or looking for further, in-depth training to suit your needs. Read on to see our full list of course options, designed to help you make your training go further.

MOT Training Courses

All our automotive training provides technicians with the skills needed to become and maintain their status as an MOT Tester or MOT Manager. Both Academies also provide classroom-based Annual Training sessions on the current DVSA syllabus, allowing testers to complete their mandatory training.

MOT Tester Training - Class 4 & 7

This is a three-day course, including an online examination, (plus a practical assessment, completed at your business premises) for experienced technicians who would like to become an MOT Tester.

Course prices start from £495 + VAT for RMI Members.

MOT Tester Training - Class 1 & 2

This is a three-day course for experienced technicians who would like to become an MOT Tester for motorcycles.

Course prices start from £495 + VAT for RMI Members.

Light Vehicle Inspection Level 3

This course is designed for technicians whose job role involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles. The accreditation provides proof of current competence and recognition of your skills, and has been designed for technicians who do not hold a relevant, level 3 qualification but want to become an MOT tester for class 3, 4, 5 or 7 vehicles.

Course prices start from £600 + VAT for RMI Members.

MOT Centre Management

This is a two-day compulsory course for prospective MOT Managers. Those who are responsible for the operations of MOT stations (e.g. site managers) will also benefit from attending.

MOT Annual Training Classroom Sessions - Class 4 & 7

2018/19 MOT Annual Training classroom sessions at both RMI Academies includes three hours of training, an RMI workbook, the online assessment, and refreshments.

Course prices start from £75 + VAT per candidate.

*New for 2018/19*: enhanced, full-day annual training courses are also available at RMI Academy sites to provide testers with further training and practical elements covering the implementation of EU Directive 2014/45. Technical Training Courses

Being a member of the IGA provides you and your technicians with a range of training opportunities. Our courses progress from introductory on-site training, to comprehensive Level 3 courses at the RMI Academy sites in Southam and Runcorn. Diagnostic Procedures 1

This 1-day course assists technicians in developing an understanding of the diagnosis of modern vehicle systems, including the most effective ways to identify and isolate faults, primarily in petrol engine management. The utilisation of popular aftermarket diagnostic scan-tools; the multi-meter and digital oscilloscope, will be discussed and demonstrated.

Diagnostic Procedures 2

This 1-day course will look at the diagnostic process when applied to diesel engine management and other commonplace vehicle systems. The wide range of the course is intended to give independent technicians a brief overview of the various systems. It will show that an effective diagnostic process can be used to isolate faults on all systems found on the vehicle.

Intermediate Oscilloscope

This 1-day course will build on the basic use of an oscilloscope to facilitate the testing of automotive systems. Using a blend of theory and practical work, insight will be gained into the advantages of using and an automotive oscilloscope over other methods of testing to monitor the operation of both electronic and electro-mechanical components.
