What’s on at the RMI Academies - January 2018
Looking to kickstart your New Year with some automotive training? The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills is a ‘one stop shop’ for all your training and certification needs.
Our Academies have a focus on MOT training, annual training and technical training, in order to deliver the best training at the best price without commercial interests.
Both of our training venues are designed to be easily reached for your convenience. Our Runcorn site is located on the M56, close to the M6 and M62, near Manchester, Liverpool and Chester. The new Mersey Gateway bridge, running across the River Mersey between Widnes and Runcorn, also opened last month, meaning easier access to your local RMI Academy than ever before. Our Southam site has easy access across the Midlands, with a central location near the M1, M6 and M40, and is also accessible from London and the South West.

RMI Academy training centres are open to all MOT Testing Stations; however, members of the RMI can take advantage of preferential prices as a benefit of membership.

MOT Training Courses
All our automotive training provides technicians with the skills needed to become and maintain their status as an MOT Tester or MOT Manager. Both Academies also provide classroom-based Annual Training sessions on the current DVSA syllabus, allowing testers to complete their mandatory training.
MOT Tester Training - Class 4 & 7
This is a three-day course, including an online examination, (plus a practical assessment, completed at your business premises) for experienced technicians who would like to become an MOT Tester.
Course prices start from £495 + VAT for RMI Members.
MOT Tester Training - Class 1 & 2
This is a three-day course for experienced technicians who would like to become an MOT Tester for motorcycles.
Course prices start from £495 + VAT for RMI Members.
Light Vehicle Inspection Level 3
This course is designed for technicians whose job role involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles. The accreditation provides proof of current competence and recognition of your skills, and has been designed for technicians who do not hold a relevant, level 3 qualification but want to become an MOT tester for class 3, 4, 5 or 7 vehicles.
The Academies also offer an Assessment Only course option for Light Vehicle Lv3 candidates, held on the last day of each Lv3 full course.
Course prices start from £600 + VAT for RMI Members.
Assessment Only prices start from £300 + VAT for RMI Members.
MOT Centre Management
This is a two-day compulsory course for prospective MOT Managers. Those who are responsible for the operations of MOT stations (e.g. site managers) will also benefit from attending.
Course prices start from £275 + VAT for RMI Members.
MOT Annual Training Classroom Sessions - Class 4 & 7
2017/18 MOT Annual Training classroom sessions at both RMI Academies includes three hours of training, an RMI workbook, the online assessment, and tea/coffee.
Course prices start from £75 + VAT per candidate.
Technical Training Courses
Being a member of the IGA provides you and your technicians with s range of training opportunities. Our courses progress from introductory on-site training, to comprehensive Level 3 courses at the RMI Academy sites in Southam and Runcorn. Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Repair Level 3
This two-day course covers the technology associated with the present generation of hybrid and electrically propelled vehicles. The focus is on gaining a thorough understanding of how the electric vehicle functions and the variation of electric vehicle types currently available, and there is a strong emphasis on safe working practices.
Diagnostic Procedures 1
This 1 day course assists technicians in developing an understanding of the diagnosis of modern vehicle systems, including the most effective ways to identify and isolate faults, primarily in petrol engine management. The utilisation of popular aftermarket diagnostic scan-tools; the multi-meter and digital oscilloscope, will be discussed and demonstrated.
Diagnostic Procedures 2
This 1 day course will look at the diagnostic process when applied to diesel engine management and other commonplace vehicle systems. The wide range of the course is intended to give independent technicians a brief overview of the various systems. It will show that an effective diagnostic process can be used to isolate faults on all systems found on the vehicle.
Intermediate Oscilloscope
This 1 day course will build on the basic use of an oscilloscope to facilitate the testing of automotive systems. Using a blend of theory and practical work, insight will be gained into the advantages of using and an automotive oscilloscope over other methods of testing to monitor the operation of both electronic and electro-mechanical components.
