MOT Tester Class 5 Training
This is a one day course, including an online examination for Class 4 & 7 MOT Testers who would like to become a Class 5 MOT Tester.
The training the course will cover:
locating the latest information published online to include:
MOT Inspection Manual
MOT Testing Guide
locating information within each section of the MOT Inspection Manual to inform testing decisions
defining a Class 5 vehicle
identifying the differences between Class 4 and Class 5 testing requirements
Before registering to complete Class 5 training and assessment the tester must first:
already be a Class 4 and 7 (Group B) MOT Tester or;
have achieved a Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7) and;
passed an MOT VT8 demonstration test after gaining their Level 2 qualification
Following successful completion of the candidate's training and online assessment a candidate should apply to the DVSA for a VT8 demonstration test to sign off as a qualified Class 5 tester. Once qualified, testers must maintain their Tester status by completing DVSA-mandated Annual Training between 1st April and 31st March each year. The RMI's training and assessment packages meet the requirements for Classes 3, 4, 5 and 7 testers.
VT8 Demonstration Tests
To book a VT8 demonstration test, a candidate will need their MOT testing service user ID and the VTS number of the vehicle test station at which they want to have their test. They will need to contact the DVSA Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 9000 and then choose option 2, then option 4. This number is available Monday to Friday, 7:30am until 6pm.
All candidates wishing to take the MOT Tester Class 5 Training course at the RMI Academy must complete the below forms, to process your application and to ensure that you meet DVSA's minimum requirements for the course.
