Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 1 & 2)

This course is heavily at a rate of £350
 for members of the Independent Garage Association.

Course Overview

 

This is a three day course for experienced technicians who would like to become an Motorcycle Tester.

 

Course Structure

 

Over three training days the course will cover:

 

  • Relevant acts and regulations

  • Tools for the job

  • When you can refuse to begin a test

  • Use of the testing manual

  • Standards and procedures

  • Documentation and security

  • Use of the online MOT testing service

  • Routine inspection

  • Classes of vehicle

 

Qualification

 

On completion of the course, a candidate will be qualified as an MOT tester, having achieved the National Occupational Standard for the role. Once this qualification has been awarded, a candidate will be able to apply to the DVSA to be authorised as an MOT tester. 

 

Eligibility

 

To be eligible, candidates must:

 

  • Be a skilled technician with a minimum of 4 years' full time employment, permitted by law, in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested

  • Have current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test

  • Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation

  • Be 'of good repute'.

Due to the changes to MOT training, candidates are no longer required by DVSA to be nominated by an MOT Manager before attending a training course. Instead an MOT manager needs to verify an individual's employment upon completion of the course.
